Veri Soda Review and Giveaway

I grew up on soda. I switched to diet soda as a teenager and have grown to love the taste. However, after all of the hidden health risks I keep reading about diet sodas and artificial sweetener, I have cut back and tried to break the habit altogether. I have gone to having one a day to one a week. My health is worth giving up one of the things I love.

I never though I would see the day when I would see organic soda. I was so excited to receive my free samples of Veri organic sodas. I could hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of switching from soda with artificial sweeteners to soda made with organic fruit juice, organic cane sugar, and organic stevia. The biggest question for me was would the taste convince me to switch. I got to try each of the four flavors. One disappointed while another knocked my socks off. The price of $4.99 for a four pack may seem high but it is well in line with comparable organic products.

Veri Ginger Ale

I'll start with the flavor I was most disappointed with. I have to preface by saying I've never been a fan of ginger ale so my expectations were low to begin with. The Veri Ginger Ale reminded me of drinking seltzer water. The one thing I did like was the that it genuinely tastes like real ginger. It is made with organic ginger extract. It's not a strong taste nor is it sweet. Sadly, nobody in my family loved it. We wanted to but couldn't.

Rating:  ★★☆☆☆

Veri Cola

While I liked the cola soda, I didn't love it. What I liked the best is that it's not too sweet and doesn't overwhelm with carbonation. The flavor was just meh. My family felt the same about it as I did. Nobody hated it but nobody loved it either. One nice thing about the cola is that it's caffeine free as are all Veri Sodas.
Rating:  ★★☆☆

Veri Orange

This is where Veri Soda gets it right. Made with organic orange juice concentrate, the Veri Orange Soda tastes like real orange. None of that fake fruit flavor found in other sodas. In fact, I have never liked any orange soda, diet or regular, so the fact that I like this one was truly amazing. I like the mild taste. I love the real citrus. I'll be looking for this one next time I want a treat.
Rating:  ★★☆

Veri Lemon Lime

I'm not going to lie. I was prepared to hate the Veri Lemon Lime. My mom gave me lemon lime soda every time I was sick and I haven't been able to drink any brand since. Most brands are sickening sweet. One swallow of the Veri Lemon Lime about knocked my socks off (figuratively not literally). I loved it. Thankfully, it's not sickly sweet. What I love the most about it, is that it tastes like real fruit, not imitation. With organic flavors and organic lemon juice concentrate, it is almost like putting fresh lime and lemon in carbonated water.  This was my family's favorite as well. I'll definitely purchase this one again. I like that each flavor is only 60 calories which is about half of a regular can of soda.
Rating:  ★★

Cheers!

Back to School with Harvest Snaps: Review and Giveaway

**Product received at no charge to facilitate review.**

I'm always looking for gluten free snacks I can send with my college age daughter, Kalina, to her place and also snacks that my teenage son will eat. The teenager could care less if his snacks are healthy, as long as they taste good. On the other hand my daughter has so many dietary limitations that she is just happy to find a snack she can eat. Healthy options are usually the only options for her.

The Snapea Crisps and Lentil Snacks by Harvest Snaps gives me products that will work for my entire family. Even better, the Snapea Crisps are made with 70% all-natural peas while the Lentil Snaps are made with 65% authentic lentils. This means that my family will get protein and fiber in every bite.

It felt like Christmas opening our box from Harvest Snacks. So hard to choose which flavor to try first. Since my daughter is lactose intolerant as well as gluten intolerant, she skipped over those made with milk products and went straight for the Tomato Basil Lentil Snaps. It was love at first bite for her. It was all I could do to get her to let me have a few for review purposes. While it was her favorite, I ended up liking the  Lightly Salted Snapea Crips better. The little bit of salt enhanced the pea flavor and I liked the crunch of the snacks. The Lentil Snaps ended up being a hit with both my daughter and husband as they both really liked the Onion Thyme Lentil Snaps.

My son ended up liking the Casear and Wasabi Ranch Snapea Crisps the best. I have to admit, I liked the flavor the Ceasar the best as well but my moderate case of lactose intolerance kept me from eating more than a few so I stuck with the Ligthly Salted Crisps.

Last to try was the Black Pepper Snapea Crisps. I'm not a big black pepper fan so these were my least favorite. However, the rest of the family liked them. Kalina talked her brother into letting her take them if she would leave the Cesear and Wasabi Ranch ones for him. He gladly obliged, though if he would have read the ingredients, he would have known she couldn't have eaten those two flavors anyway. He felt like he got the best end of the trade so that is all that matters, right?

I'm not one to buy a lot of snack foods but with back to school time upon us, it means we are rushing to eat in between getting out of school and getting to mountain bike practice. Caden has learned that he has to fuel up or he doesn't go very far or fast on his bike. A quick snack and dinner gives him the energy he needs for practice. Thanks Harvest Snacks for making our back to school days easier.

EnvyDerm Lip Volumnizing and Conditioning Plumper Review and Giveaway

Product received at no charge for review purposes.

While we wish we could spend all of our time exploring the outdoors or traveling, it is not possible. We still have to work which means we must get dressed up and apply makeup on a daily basis. Neither Kalina nor I are big fans of heavy lipsticks. However, we do like lip products with shine and a nice hint of color. I also like lip products that moisturize my lips and make them look fuller. Being in the sun a lot tends to dry out my lips.

We both got a chance to try the Lip Volumnizing and Conditioning Plumper by EnvyDerm. We loved the how it moisturized our lips and gave them a beautiful hint of color all while appearing very natural. What stood out for me was the thickness and the hint of mint. It truly felt like a luxury product and one which I would would gladly pay a little more for over my regular lip products. Not only that, but it really did make our lips look fuller.

Check out our before and after photos to see for yourself.

The conditioning lip plumper is easy to apply and the applicator holds just the right amount for one application. We both loved the organic moisturizing oils which include Aragan and Jojoba oil which helped soothed my dry lips.

We tried the Rose Bleu color and we both loved how it tinted our lips with a natural looking color.

In my reviews, I like to point out anything I think could be improved. However, there was nothing about the EnvyDerm Conditioning Plumper I disliked. While I do wish it cost a bit less, I would still pay the price as it is a high quality product. We would both highly recommend this product to our readers and would be happy to use it again. I love that EnvyDerm makes their products in the U.S.A. I am increasingly wary of reports of high lead content in products shipped from overseas. I don't have to worry about that with EnvyDerm.

Lightload Towels Review & Giveaway

When I am hiking or backpacking, I'm always looking for ways to lighten my load. I usually hike for several hours and I like to be prepared for anything but I don't like my pack to get too heavy. I've tried carrying disposable wipes but they usually aren't strong enough or big enough to get off the grime from a muddy or dusty hike.

I've really needed something lightweight with substance that I can rinse out and use again. It saves pack weight to take a reusable product over disposable products.

Lucky for me I was given the chance to review Lightload Towels.

Lightload towels are small enough to fit in the palm of my hand and my hand is not big. They are wrapped tight in waterproof packaging which makes them the perfect week long backpacking companion. I'm thinking ahead to my planned summer backpacking trip. Each towel weighs less than an ounce dry. It hardly takes any space in my backpack and weighs less than disposable wipes.

I found a stream to use for getting my towel wet. I dropped my towel tablet in and as it absorbed water, it turned into a lightweight hand towel that measures 12 x 24 inches. I was surprised at the size. I expected it to be smaller but it is a perfect size. I like that it will easily fit inside a first aid kit.

Though the towel is thin and lightweight, it is durable for scrubbing dust and mud off the skin. I had no problem getting the mud off my face that I had rubbed on. Though I tried it on a wet, snowy day, it seems like it would dry fairly quickly. It didn't get too cold to use on a snowy day. It would be easy to pack out or burn after it wears out.
It is made with a 100% viscose material, which is the same material a sponge is made of.

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

When I was finished using the towel, I crumpled it up and put it in a mesh pocket on the outside of my backpack. It didn't get my backpack wet. If I were on an overnight hike, I would reuse the towel a few times, and let it burn in the campfire at the end of my trip.

I can't even begin to list the many uses for the Lightload Towels. They would be great to keep in a car for spills.
I like the idea of keeping them with my first aid kit. Since they are individually wrapped, I would trust using them on a cut or scrape for bleeding.

It's not very often I find such a handy product less the $10 for a package of three. It's worth buying several packages to keep around. Besides hiking, I am planning on keeping some around for camping and in our ATV's.

My favorite features of the Lightload Towels.
  • Lightweight
  • Waterproof packaging
  • Many uses
  • Durable
  • Inexpensive
  • Good for variety of outdoor activities.
There was nothing I disliked about the towels. Therefore a 5 star rating.

Product Review & Giveaway: Telic Footwear Sandals

*FTC Disclosure: Telic Footwear provided me with a sample of the product in exchange for a product review. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
Comfort Rating: ★★★★★
Appearance Rating: ★★★★☆

Several years ago I developed painful plantar fasciitis while training for a marathon. It took me a year and a visit to the podiatrist to get rid of it. I was advised never to wear flip flops and to look for shoes that form to my feet and offer support. I love summertime and sandals so giving up cheap flip flops was hard at first. However, since I started spending more money on quality footwear, I haven't had anymore foot problems.

The sandals from Telic Footwear fall in the category of it doesn't matter how much they cost as long as their comfortable. My Telic sandals are truly the most comfortable pair of flip flops I have ever had. The sandals offer plenty of support and form to the foot instead of being flat.

My Telic sandals fit snug enough that they didn't make that annoying flip flop sound as I walked. Speaking of walking, the way the sandals are shaped, it feels like I get a little foot massage every step I take. At first it is a weird rocking feeling but it only takes a few steps to get used to it and to like it. I didn't find a breaking in period with my Telics I walked my dogs, I mean my dogs walked me a mile and a half the first time I wore them. I had no problem with them hurting or rubbing on my feet. I tried running to keep up with the dogs and expected my sandals to fly off but they stayed on. In fact, they not only stayed on, they didn't move.

I have a tripped planned to Florida next month and I plan on wearing my new sandals to the theme parks all day. The only time I wouldn't use these sandals is when I'm involved in water sports or rock climbing where an extra strap would hold my sandals in place and keep me safe.

www.terox.com

I love that Telic Footwear is made in the U.S.A. Their tagline really fits their product. If Made in America feels this good, I want more.

I do have to admit, my family teased me a little bit about the way my new sandals look. Sure, I could find cuter summer footwear, but as much as I use my feet, it is simply not worth it. I hike too much to have sore feet. Comfort rules for me. However, I thought it was only fair to rate them on the way the look as well thus the 4 out of 5 star for looks. I don't really mind and since there are so many colors to choose from, it's not an issue.

My favorite things about my Telic Footwear:
  • Forms to my foot
  • Fits snug and stays put
  • Comfort
  • Cushions my feet
  • Feels like a foot massage
  • Shape of sole
  • No breaking in period
My least favorite thing (I only have one):
  • Looks
I definitely recommend Telic Footwear to my readers if comfort is more important than price.

Follow Telic Footwear on Facebook and Twitter.

Guess what is awesome? Telic Footwear is giving away a pair of sandals to three of my lucky readers.
