We stayed at the Hoover Dam Lodge in Boulder City, Nevada. I have to admit, I don’t like staying at hotels with casinos. The biggest reason is they always reek with the stench of cigarette smoke. It never fails that I have to walk through the casino and stink of smoke to get to my room. The Hoover Dam Lodge is no exception to walking through the smoke on the way to the rooms. However, we were pleasantly surprised once we got to our room. It was a good size and newly remodeled. It didn’t stink yet at all like cigarettes. This was the first casino hotel I’ve stayed at that didn’t smell bad.
We get cabin fever in the middle of winter in Utah and like to take a weekend trip south to where the weather is warmer. About a month ago, we traveled to Nevada. We spent one day and night exploring the Hoover Dam area by Lake Mead. My favorite was our leisurely mountain bike ride along the Historic Railroad Trail. I loved riding through the five tunnels along the wide, easy trail. We also had a great view of Lake Mead and were able get a close up view of the Hoover Dam.
We were greeted with two bottles of water upon check in and even got a nice surprise of a goody basket waiting for us on our desk. I’ve been to four and five star hotels where you have to pay money for anything you take out of the basket. Not at the Hoover Dam Lodge. It’s all part of their customer service experience that made our stay a little more pleasant.
Though there was a restaurant at the lodge, we decided to go into the town of Boulder City for Mexican food. Mostly it was because we didn’t want to eat in the midst of a smoke filled casino and because all you can eat buffets aren’t always appealing to us.
Though we went into the campground near the shore to visit friends, we didn’t go swimming in the Lake Mead. It was too cold in February but would be a great place in the summer when the temperatures are scorching. Though we only stayed one night at the Hoover Dam Lodge and continued on, we had a great time. I’m glad we rode the Railroad Trail which was the highlight of my stay.
