Dial Sugar Cane Husk Scrub Hand Soap Review and Giveaway

FTC Disclosure: The Dial® brand provided me with a sample of Dial® Sugar Cane Husk Scrub Hand Soap in exchange for a product review. However, all the opinions here are my own.

No matter what tough job I do with my hands, it seems I'm always washing them in the kitchen. In fact, the whole family rushes to the kitchen sink after being outside more than they do any other household sink. That means I must have a family soap that can take care of tough jobs but have a neutral scent for both the boys and the girls.

The Dial® Sugar Cane Husk Scrub Hand Soap takes care of my whole family. The soap contains a gentle micro-scrubber that helps removed the dirt from yard work. However, it also contains moisturizers that keep my hands from getting dried and cracker. I wash my hands at least four times during cooking. I don't like soaps that dry out my hands. I can trust Dial® to keep my hands clean and conditioned. My family likes the scent of the sugar cane husk. It's a sweet, musky scent that doesn't linger long for those who don't like strong scents.

There is nothing I dislike about the Dial® soap and my family has no complaints either.

Fitness Foundations Calf Compression Sleeve Review

FTC Disclosure: Product received at no charge to facilitate review. No other compensation received.
Review written by Kalina Zufelt

As an avid runner, I have wanted compression leg sleeves for a few years now. I have balked at the price because a good compression sleeve can often run upwards of $50. Premium Calf Compression Sleeves with Reflective Technology by Fitness Foundations sleeves are finally a reasonable price ($25.97) and the time was right to try them out.

I got my sleeves on Friday just in time to use them after my long run on Saturday. I am currently training for my first marathon with the goal of a top 10 female finish. I run about 60 miles a week and quick recovery is imperative to my training goals. I set out Saturday for a 24 mile run into a stiff headwind. I finished and was pretty tired, excited to use my compression sleeves on my sore calves. The sleeves felt great. They were nice and tight but not uncomfortable. I was gearing up for a tough hike in the afternoon and worried that my legs might be too tired from my run to do very well. I kept the sleeves on all afternoon and even kept them on for my hike. After gaining 3200 feet of elevation in 2.5 miles, my legs were screaming! Just as steep on the way down, I knew my I wouldn't be able to walk the next day.

To my pleasant surprise, I woke the day after my 30 mile Saturday and my calves felt amazing! Not even the slightest bit sore! (My quads on the other hand were quite sore-now I need a pair of compression sleeves for my thighs!). I can't believe how great my calves feel. The sleeves are like magic! I am definitely a strong believer in compression now. As an exercise science major, I have long known the benefits of compression but had not experienced it for myself.

I really like the feel of these sleeves. The material is smooth and soft and very comfortable. I was worried they might be too tight and hurt after a while but I wore them for 6+ hours and they were great the whole time. I also really like the reflectivity on them. I often run at 5 or 6 in the morning when it is still dark so being able to be seen by cars is very important.

I would recommend these to any athlete looking for a way to decrease recovery time. You can wear the sleeves during and/or after exercise to get results. Personally I like them best after my runs.

The one size fits all worked great for me. I was worried because I am a fairly small person (5'5", 110lbs) and one size items are usually too big for me (which you absolutely don't want in a compression sleeve). However, if you have pretty big calves, these might be harder to get on. I think they would still be comfortable as that is the nature of the material, but I wouldn't have wanted them to be much smaller. They can be a little difficult to get on over your foot, I found they slid on better when I was wearing socks.

Overall I am very happy with the product and very excited to wear them after many more miles to come!

Dessange Hair Care Products Review #JadoreDessange

My hair takes a lot of abuse between the time I spend outdoors and from coloring my hair. I'm always looking for hair care products that will help with my dry and damaged hair. The Dessange Paris Replenishing products seemed like a perfect fit for my hair.

I'm happy to share my review with my readers.

Dessange Paris Oleo Miracle Replenishing Shampoo-  As a stand alone product, I like the shampoo. It keeps my hair from drying out and cleans it well. It's comparable with other salon shampoo products but not superior. While I liked it and would purchase it again, my only complaint is with the smell. I don't mind the scent but it is strong and lingers in my hair for a long time. The smell of the shampoo and conditioner together isn't as strong as when adding the replenishing oil but if you are one who doesn't like a strong smell, this may not be for you. I do want to add that I sometimes have allergies to strong smells but I did not have an allergic reaction to this one. ★★★★☆

Dessange Paris Oleo Miracle Replenishing Conditioner-   The conditioner felt like a luxury product and gave my hair softness and shine. A great product. ★★★★

Dessange Paris Oleo Miracle Replenishing Oil-  I love dry hair oil. My hair needs the extra boost during the day. The Dessange Replenishing oil felt light and is definitely non-greasy. I absolutely love the way this makes my hair feel. It's one of the best dry oils I have ever found. I would give this a 5 star rating if it weren't for the smell. Out of the three products, the replenishing oil has the strongest smell. After showering in the morning, I could still smell my hair at bedtime and upon awakening the next morning. While I am not adverse to the smell, I wish it wasn't quite so strong. ★★★★☆

Overall, I liked Dessange products and would purchase them in the future. I did find them at my local Target as well as online at Amazon.

Power Tek Fire Talon Multi-tool and Pocketknife: Review

FTC Disclosure: Product received at no charge to facilitate my review

I like having products that serve many purposes. With all of the outdoor activities my family participates in, we need multiple tools. The .Power Tek Fire Talon Premium Heavy Duty Multi-tool Pocket Knife with Two Built-in LED Flashlights has almost everything we need and fits nicely in our day pack or as a back up to leave in our car.

The Power Tek Fire Talon is definitely heavy duty. I was pleasantly surprised with the size and durability of the pliers. They have a good grip and good spring. They fold out to a larger size than I am use to in a multi-tol which makes them really easy to use.

The knife blade is a good size too and surprisingly sharp. I like that it locks so I don't have to worry about cutting myself. I am a big klutz.

I like that the small scissors are great for lightweight projects. They have a nice spring but don't cut through wire well. Also included are a Phillips and flathead screwdriver tip and a bottle opener.

One of the best features are the two lights (one on either end) to help with night time emergencies. While the lights aren't super bright, it helps having them to see what you're doing. When the batteries run out, they are easy to change.

The Power Tek Fire Talon Multi-tool comes in a sturdy carrying case with a loop so it can easily be strapped onto a belt.

The only thing I didn't like about the multi-tool is that it is too heavy for multi-day backpacking but would make a good companion for  trip for someone who doesn't mind the extra weight.

The only problem I will have with it is keeping from being claimed by my teenage son.

Izyer Cushioned Sports Socks Review and Giveaway

FTC Disclosure: Product received at no charge to facilitate review.

I exercise almost every day. Whether it be at the gym, on my mountain bike, road bike or running and hiking, I'm always looking for a good pair of socks. I do go through a lot of them.

My biggest issue with socks is the way they breath. Cotton socks often give me blisters when hiking and I have a hard time with hot wool socks. I've found socks make with Coolmax® Technology usually work the best for me. I was thrilled to find the Iyzer Women's Coolmax Running Sock.
I did worry about the extra cushioning. While I love to have extra cushioning when I run and hike, I've found that the extra padding usually causes extra heat which is something my feet can't handle. With the Iyzer Coolmax Running Socks, I don't have to worry about this. I get the extra cushioning without the extra heat thanks to the breathable mesh that helps wick moisture outside to keep dry. I used these socks on a two hour bike ride, changed from my bike shoes to my hiking shoes without changing socks then went for a 45 minute hike. I sweat a lot but the Iyzer socks did a great job keeping my feet dry and free from blisters with extended use.

Breathable mesh.

Good for cycling too.
While the Iyzer socks might seem pricey, they are in line with other sports socks made with Coolmax®. I've spent just as much or more on other sports socks and I really like the breathable mesh in the Iyzer socks that I haven't found in other socks. They also stay in place without bunching up as long as you pull them tight before putting on your shoes.

The extra cushioning in the heel is nice for running. I like the extra cushioning in the toes for cycling. It helps to have the padding in the area where my pedal clips are attached to my shoe.

Dial Miracle Oil Body Wash Review and Giveaway

Dial Miracle Oil Review

This time of year always brings dry, itchy skin. Soaps and body washes tend to dry my skin out even more.

I welcome products with added moisturizers. As a Purex Insider, I was thrilled to receive a free bottle of Dial® Miracle Oil Body Wash for review. In fact, I couldn't even wait to take a photo until after I'd tried it several times.

Infused with Marula oil, the Dial® Miracle Oil Body Wash feels smooth going on. After rinsing, it leaves my skin soft and doesn't dry out my skin like harsh soaps. It feels like a luxury product but at a reasonable price. I like the fact I can clean my body and moisturize it at the same time. Though the body wash does not replace my need for after shower body lotion, it does keep my skin from drying out even more.

I can't wait for my local stores to start carrying the product. I will definitely be on the look out for it and will buy more when my bottle runs out. It's fun getting to try the new Dial® products.

Rock Climbing in Utah: The Salt Lake Slips in Big Cottonwood Canyon

Rock climbing is a new sport for me. I started at the urging of my adult daughter. She was gracious enough to lead climb for me on one of my first outdoor routes and patient enough to help me get to the top.

Close to the urban area, the Salt Lake Slips are only 2.45 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon on the left (north) side of the canyon. The safest way to get to climbing routes is by entering through the Storm Mountain picnic area, crossing the bridge, and walking west past the Storm Mountain Amphitheater. Then go up the hill, to the gully above the Slips, and hike down toward the Slips.

We parked along the road opposite the climbs and crossed over the river during low water season. Do NOT attempt to cross this way during spring run off. It's not worth the risk.

Rope set at Italian Arete
The east facing walls have several climbs with set anchors. The Italian Arete climb shares anchors with the Entre Nous climb to the right and on a busy day, you may have to wait. The Italian Arete is rated a 5.6 sport climb and was perfect for my first outdoor climb.

After gaining confidence on my successful first climb, I tackled the more difficult Entre Nous route. I loved the challenge of the smooth midsection with a crack for your fingers. This climb is rated 5.8+ and is plenty challenging for a beginner.

Make sure to bring the proper climbing gear for both lead  and rope climbing. Though we climbed without helmets, I wouldn't recommend it. There is not a lot of loose rock but better to keep your head safe. A helmet will definitely be one of my next climbing purchases.

I had a lot of fun and can't wait to learn how to lead climb so I can spend more time at the Slips.
